The Perm Ballet Academy is one of the top dance academies in the world and students usually have to compete with seven or eight other applicants to get in. Students are accepted from around the world and some of them are fortunate enough to be sponsored. The Perm Ballet Academy currently has 330 students from all over the world. The academy itself is made up of three buildings – a study house, a student theatre and a student dormitory. Other facilities included a sauna, a gym, a cafeteria and a movie theatre. Because not all students may be able to come and study here for long periods of time, the school offers foreign students special, personalized programs which may range from fourteen days to five years in length. Applicants must have finished Junior high school and have passed all their subjects in order to apply for the academy. Foreign students must be at least 13 years of age, though exceptions have been made before. They can enrol at any time during the year but should be aware that an academic year at the academy is ten months long. At the end of the year, students are given a certificate stating their progress and level of skill. What’s more, the school offers a number of other subjects such as classical dance, character dance, duet dance, historical dance, modern dance, acting, gymnastics and stage make-up. If a student wishes to receive a diploma they must take additional subjects such as literature, foreign literature, world art and culture, social science, history and fine arts. This sort of tuition is provided by a body of educators which are available to the students. The dormitories are fully furnished and have all the necessary creature comforts to live a comfortable life and students are provided with four meals a day. What’s more, the students who go here can enjoy performances at the Perm theatre or circus for free.
